Rebecca de Toro (born in Leipzig in 1998) is a dancer, performer, and choreographer based in Cologne. After training in classical ballet at the Palucca University of Dance in Dresden, she studied contemporary dance at the Folkwang University of the Arts in Essen and at the Royal Conservatory in Antwerp, where she graduated in 2023. She has been working as a freelance artist since 2020 and has performed at venues including PACT Zollverein (2023/2025), the Kunstverein Hamburg (2024), Schauspiel Bochum (2024), tanzhaus NRW (2024/2026), and K21 (2025), as well as in international contexts such as dansa metropolitana Barcelona (2025), HetBos Antwerp (2024), and Theater Aan Zee Ostend (2023). She has collaborated with artists such as Deufert&Plischke, Iván Pérez, Tilman O’Donnell, Ja Jess, Simomo Bouj, and Caner Teker. She has a long-standing collaboration with choreographer Gaia Pellegrini, multimedia artist Maria Kobylenko, and visual artist Gregor Leiprecht.
In her artistic practice, Rebecca de Toro combines bodywork with influences from pop culture and post-digital discourses. Her works move between performance, choreography, and interdisciplinary formats, exploring questions of community, femininity, and visibility as a spectrum, as well as accessibility and the opening up of institutional spaces. Her collaborative processes occupy the tension between politics and pop culture.
